SENSEI PHIL JONES

Sensei Phil has been studying Jiu Jitsu for the past fifteen years.  He has a 3rd degree black belt in combat Jiu Jitsu, where he specializes in control tactics and urban weapons. For the past six years, he has also been studying Brazilian Jiu Jitsu and has received three stripes on his white belt. Sensei Phil also trains and teaches in Krav Maga, which is a self defense system.

For Sensei Phil, EVERYONE has the right to protect themselves. Teaching Jiu Jitsu allows him to give people confidence towards their own personal safety. The people who he trains with are as close to him as his own family, as they hold him accountable and continually pushing him to improve and learn more.

Sensei Phil’s belief is that a dojo is something more than just a ‘school’.  For him, a dojo also means family.

Sensei Mike Lance has been studying the martial art Jiu Jitsu for the past seven years. His initial interest in Jiu Jitsu was that he wanted a change, something new to challenge his competitive nature. Sensei Mike was also interested in finding something new and different to offer the students at school.

Sensei Mike has an innate respect for the history and tradition of the sport. It is the benevolence involved and how it teaches you to give back, that he loves. Jiu Jitsu is not just about personal learning and advancing oneself, but to also to use your knowledge to teach others.

For Sensei Mike, Jiu Jitsu is a way of life. Jiu Jitsu doesn’t discriminate against age, size, or gender. Everyone has their own path and if you’re lucky, you get to assist someone else along own personal journey. This encourages trust and dependance on people, as you can’t achieve your goals without these.  Jiu Jitsu makes you a better person.

Sensei Mike practices both Traditional (Japanese) Jiu Jitsu and Brazilian. He currently has his black belt in Japanese Jiu Jitsu and currently has his blue belt in Brazilian.

Mike’s personal mantra that he strives to lead:

To live by choice, not by chance,
To be motivated, not manipulated,
To be useful, not used,
To make changes, not excuses,
To excel, not compete.

I choose self-esteem, not self-pity,
I choose to listen to my inner voice,
Not to the random opinions of others.

I choose to do the things that you
won’t so I can continue to do
the things you can’t.
